Condition Grading

Every Item that arrives at TheLuxeArchive is assessed individually, by hand. Because all Items are pre-owned and unique, no two pieces of the same model wear in exactly the same way, and honest grading is the only way we can serve buyers who cannot see a piece in person before purchasing.

Our five Condition Grades reflect what you will actually find when the Item arrives. They are not aspirational descriptions. Authentication by LegitGrails is carried out separately for every Item, regardless of condition; a Fair Item is just as genuine as a Pristine one.

If you have a question about a specific Item's condition beyond what is described, contact us before you buy, and we will share additional photos or details.

If an Item you receive does not match its listed Condition Grade or written condition report in a meaningful way, you are entitled to a return under the terms set out in our Refund Policy.

Pristine

Never carried. In original, pristine condition with no evidence of use.

  • No signs of use or wear anywhere on the Item;
  • Exterior leather, canvas, or fabric is clean and completely unmarked;
  • Hardware is bright and unblemished;
  • Lining is pristine, with no marks, odour, or staining of any kind;
  • Handles and straps are unworn;
  • Shape is fully retained;
  • Original tags may or may not be attached; original packaging is not guaranteed unless stated.

Excellent

Carried very little. Under normal viewing conditions, indistinguishable from new.

  • Exterior shows no visible scratches, scuffs, or colour transfer;
  • Hardware retains its original brightness; only the faintest trace of handling may be visible on very close inspection;
  • Corner stitching is tight and intact throughout;
  • Lining is clean with no marks or staining
  • Handles and straps are unworn with no darkening or patina;
  • Shape is fully retained.

Good

Regularly used, with clear and moderate signs of wear. Fully functional and carries well.

  • Visible scuffs, scratches, or light colour transfer on the exterior;
  • Corner wear is noticeable;
  • Hardware shows moderate tarnishing or surface scratching;
  • Handles or straps may show wear, some darkening, or developed patina;
  • Lining may have minor marks or light staining;
  • Shape is largely retained with no structural issues.

Fair

Heavily used over time, with significant wear consistent with a well-travelled bag. Best suited to buyers who value character, or those considering restoration.

  • Noticeable scuffs, scratches, or areas of colour loss on the exterior;
  • Corner wear or surface peeling may be present;
  • Hardware shows significant tarnishing or scratching;
  • Handles or straps show heavy wear, pronounced darkening, or surface cracking;
  • Lining may have marks, staining, or minor damage;
  • Shape may be slightly softened or show signs of structural wear.

As Is

Sold in its current state, with significant damage, missing components, or issues that fall outside our standard grading scale. Priced and described accordingly.

  • May have notable structural damage, such as broken hardware, damaged closures, or cracked or detached handles;
  • Exterior may show heavy wear, deep scratching, significant colour loss, or irreversible staining;
  • Missing components such as straps, lock and keys, or original closures;
  • Lining may have tears, heavy staining, or odour;
  • May have been repaired, altered, or restored; any such work is disclosed in the condition description;
  • Shape may be compromised.
